"Ripple" series appears in exhibition catalog

The Art In Embassies Program has published an exhibition catalog for the show currently on view at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat, Oman, which includes three paintings from my "Ripple" series. The show is titled "The Art House, Art In Embassies Exhibition: Contemporary Art from the United States of America and the Sultanate of Oman at the Residence of the U.S. Ambassador." Bain Capital Purchase

Bain Capital in Boston has purchased two of my paintings, "Tides 4" (acrylic on canvas, 50" H x 20" W) and "Blue Spheres 3" (acrylic on fabric on canvas, 40 inches square), shown below.

Four-person exhibit: "Squiggles and Squares"

My work was on display from September 17 to November 2, 2011, as part of a four-person show titled "Squiggles and Squares" at Artworks Gallery in New Bedford, MA. Faculty show at Pine Manor College

Boston Public Library purchase

The Print Department at the Boston Public Library purchased three of my works on paper. They are the "Seaweave" series, pictured below. Each one is 30" H x 22" W.

Paintings on display through DeCordova Corporate Program

The DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, MA, has just updated the web pages for their Corporate Program, to which I am a lending artist.

My individual lending artist page shows the following photographs of my work on location at various corporate member sites. The artworks pictured are "Scope," "Cluster" and "Shard"; each is 28 inches square, made of acrylic and fabric collage on canvas.

My artwork on exhibit at Framingham State University

My paintings were on view from January 18 to February 11, 2011, as part of "Process: An Exhibition by Studio Art Faculty" at the Mazmanian Gallery at Framingham State University.

Faculty show at the Danforth Museum School

Four of my paintings were on display during the month of January 2011 at the Faculty Exhibit in the Round Room Gallery of the Danforth Museum School in Framingham, MA.

On right-hand wall: "Thicket 2," acrylic on canvas, 40" square, 2009.

Painting sold

My painting "Wine Lines" sold at the Icons + Altars event at the New Art Center in Newton, MA. The buyer was a person who had previously bought one of my paintings, at an exhibit in New Bedford in 2000! So happy the work has found an appreciative new home.

The painting is 12 inches square, acrylic on paper and fabric on board, 2010.

Ripple series on loan to Embassy

As of October 2010, three of my paintings are on loan to the U.S. Embassy in Muscat, Oman, through the ART In Embassies program. They are the Ripple series, shown below, acrylic on canvas, 40" H x 28" W.

"Painting NOW" at Bristol Community College

I participated in a 6-person show at the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Gallery at Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA, from September 9 to October 21, 2010. The show was curated by gallery director Kathleen Hancock.

I showed 6 paintings in this exhibit, including "Pool 2," shown here, acrylic on canvas, 40 inches high by 28 inches wide.

"Walls and Webs" exhibit

I participated in a two-person show with Jeanne Williamson, titled "Walls and Webs," at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, MA, from March 17 to April 17, 2010.

Here is our statement regarding the show:

"For 'Walls and Webs,' two Massachusetts artists present an exhibition that demonstrates the potential of structure-based freedom. Catherine Carter’s web-like networks, extruded as fluid paint through squeeze-bottles and rooted in the configurations of hand-writing, imply energetic movement and impressionistic forms. Jeanne Williamson’s grid-based compositions derive from architectural elements – both in spirit, as the artist is inspired by views of building facades under construction, and literally, as she uses lengths of orange construction fencing as a template to print through. Together, their work extends beyond this organized framework with twisting lines, bouncing shapes and glowing colors."

Group show at Jules Place, Boston

I showed new work in a five-person show at Jules Place in Boston's South End, from January 28 to March 1, 2010.

Below is "Thicket 1," one of my paintings that was on display as part of this exhibit. This work is acrylic on canvas, 40 inches square.

Triptych purchased

The Four Seasons Hotel in Boston purchased 10 of my paintings, including the three pieces shown below. Each of these works is acrylic on paper, 20 inches square.

Two of my paintings purchased

Berkshire Partners in Boston purchased two of my paintings to decorate their new office suite in the John Hancock Building.

They purchased three of my pieces in 2007, and now that they have moved to a larger space, they have selected two more from the series to add to the original grouping. The five paintings are now displayed along a wall in the company's main boardroom.

"The Unique Print" at Concord Art Association

Two of my monotypes were featured in "New England Impressions III: The Unique Print," curated by Dorothy Thompson, at the Concord Art Association in Concord, MA, from March 21 to May 3, 2009. Here I am standing in front of one of them, "Cobweb," acrylic on paper, 30" H x 20" W.

Part of a series of print exhibitions celebrating the richness of printmaking in the New England area, the exhibit included monotypes, monoprints, and experimental prints using a variety of techniques and materials such as fabrics, stitchery, carved erasers, sandpaper and other inventive means of making one-of-a-kind prints.

"Women In Print" at Bunker Hill Community College

Two of my monotypes were included in "Women In Print: An Exhibition of Boston-Area Women Printmakers" at the Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery in Boston. In this picture, I am standing in front of them: "Black Circles 2" and "Black Circles 4," both are acrylic and spray-paint on paper, 30" H x 20" W.

Three-person exhibit at Hess Gallery

I was part of a three-person show at the Hess Gallery at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA, entitled "Natural Wonders," from February 5 to March 25, 2009, along with artists Iris Osterman and Leah Piepgras.

All three of us start with landscape as a general reference point, but expand on that inspiration using gestural marks and bold shapes. For more information on the exhibit, please click here.

I received this wonderful letter yesterday from Janet Garvey, the U.S. Ambassador to Cameroon. It is an honor to have been chosen to show two of my works, "Pucker" and "Twist" (shown below) at her residence in Yaounde.

"Opening Lines" at New Art Center, Newton, MA

Four of my paintings were included in an exhibit titled "Opening Lines" at the New Art Center in Newton, Massachusetts, from January 12 to February 22, 2009. (One of them, "Coil," appears at left; 28" square, acrylic and spray-paint on canvas.)

Curated by Susan Goldwitz, the show also featured works by Michael Beatty, John Bisbee, Christine Hiebert, Masaka Kamiya, Sol LeWitt, Anne Lilly, Agnes Martin, David Moore, Jennifer Perry, Tina ManWarren Roche-Kelly, Richard Serra and Jill Weber.
